Get Ready for an Adventure at VBS: True North
June 8–12 | 5:30–8:30 PM
1947 E. Southport Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46227
Southport UMC | For kids entering Kindergarten through 6th Grade
At True North, kids will embark on an exciting journey where they’ll discover they can trust Jesus in a wild world! Each evening will be packed with hands-on Bible-learning experiences that spark faith and fun—through science experiments, team-building games, unforgettable music, and engaging activities!
Kids will explore what it means to follow Jesus through daily adventures and learn to spot God Sightings®—ways they see God working in their everyday lives. (Fair warning: things might get a little messy, so send your kiddos in play clothes and sturdy shoes!)
A full dinner will be served each evening—right in the middle of all the fun!
Kids will take a break from their adventures to enjoy a delicious meal together, giving them the energy to finish the night strong.

Everyone is sharing God's grace and hope through Jesus Christ in their 24x7 lives. So that...we are making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and the world.

We would like you to feel at home here. Come as you would be comfortable. There is no dress code. Most are casual or “smart casual” in dress, but you will find some dresses and a jacket here or there. Whatever you wear, we will be glad you're here.
You should expect to be warmly greeted and to feel at home from your first visit. Our worship is relaxed in style, but you will find we seek to be like Jesus Christ. Whether you’ve been to a church before or not, you’ll find that the worship service is simple to follow, and the teachings are meaningful and relevant to your life. We expect that at the end of the service, you’ll want to come back.
Most sermons are available in our media library on this site. CDs of sermons are also available upon request.
SUMC is part of the United Methodist denomination, the second largest Protestant denomination in America, and we uphold our heritage by pursuing ministry in keeping with this tradition. We seek to be generous in spirit, broadminded, devoted to Jesus Christ, and wholly surrendered to God. We strive for personal holiness by inviting people into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ, and we pursue social holiness in the wider community by addressing key issues of our time so that our world will look more like the Kingdom of God.
United Methodists share a common heritage with other Christians, holding to the historic essentials of the Christian faith. We have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion. We are “people of the Book,” whose faith is firmly rooted in and built on the scriptures. We hold the Bible to be divinely inspired and are committed to live by its words and we recognize the Bible was written by people who heard God in the light of their own cultural and historical circumstances. As such, we make use of scholarship and study the scriptures carefully. When we encounter theological differences, we bear in mind John Wesley’s approach, “in essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
We believe the goal of the Christian life is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. From the beginning of the Methodist movement, we were known as “reasonable enthusiasts,” those who are both emotionally and intellectually engaged. We value passionate worship with relevant preaching, small groups to hold Christians accountable to one another, and serving those who are in need. United Methodists value the full participation of women and men, people of all backgrounds in every facet of fellowship and leadership within the church and the community.
This is our heritage, and it continues to shape SUMC in every area of our ministry.
I.S. is our weekday Preschool and Child Care Ministry. Your child can grow and develop, discover the wonders of their environment, be encouraged to practice decision making, be taught to respect and value one another and the world and begin to develop Christian attitudes and responses that will lead to a meaningful relationship with God and in God’s world.
