A Note from Pastor William Nickrand

Dear Southport UMC,

I pray these words find you and your families well. My name is William Nickrand and I have been appointed as the senior pastor of Southport UMC effective July 1, 2024. My family and I are very excited to serve alongside this vibrant community and cannot wait to see how God will bless our journey together.

Over the past seventeen-plus years of ministry, I have served in varying ministry settings and positions within the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our longest tenure has been serving in the Central District. I earned my bachelor's degree at the University of Southern Indiana in communications and philosophy. I went on to earn my Master of Divinity at Louisville Seminary.

Throughout my years in ministry, I have always been community-driven. At my current appointment on the west side of Indianapolis, I am involved in many local initiatives. I serve on the local park board. I help lead Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the middle school. I am a volunteer chaplain for the police department and Boy Scout Troop 309. I also coach middle school and high school cross country and track and field. I enjoy being out in the community and making connections.

In my free time; I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, running, bicycling, traveling, and gaming. Living an active lifestyle is a big part of my life and helps me keep a good balance. My “life verse” is Philippians 4:13, “13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Life is full of challenges and knowing that we can do all things through Jesus is everything!

My wife, Lindsey, and I are coming up on eighteen years of marriage and we have two teenage children, Aiden (15) and Sydney (13). We also rescued our three-year-old Airedoodle last year who brings us great joy. Lindsey is a licensed K-6 school teacher and has spent most of her career teaching Pre-K children. Our son, Aiden, is a freshman in high school, he is involved in his school's musical, and he recently earned the title of Eagle Scout. Our daughter, Sydney, is in the 7th grade and is on her school’s swim team.

The best way to describe our family is adventurous. We strive to have experiences over things and set a goal early in our marriage to see as many places as we can together. This year is a tremendous year for us as we will complete our 50-state journey with a trip to Alaska this June.

Please know that we are praying for Southport U.M.C, for Pastor Duane and Brenda, and for all during this time of transition. I look forward to serving alongside everyone and ask for your prayers.

Blessings,

Rev. William G. Nickrand
