The tomb is empty! Christ rose from the grave, setting in motion through the power of the Holy Spirit, arguably the most powerful movement of all time. I'm talking about the Body of Christ, the hands and feet (and eyes, ears, mouth, ?) of Jesus that continues for all time. The church!
Is the church "gathered," or is it "scattered?" There have been a lot of posts recently on Facebook saying that we are now scattered.
When Jesus died, with the fear that the followers of Jesus had, they were scattered and then gathered together in homes. Jesus told his followers to remain gathered until the Holy Spirit would come upon them, and then scatter and spread the good news across the world.
Almost 2000 years later, we have been asked not to gather together for worship, but to scatter to our individual's homes.
Gathered, scattered, scattered, gathered - it doesn't make a difference.
We are STILL the church!
Here is an example of how we are still the church, shared recently from a congregation member.
News on Hunger Inc.:
I just wanted to let you know how proud I am of our church family. We are getting donations of food from one family today. Yesterday, another family delivered from the Midwest Food Bank and a member of yet a third family gave his second delivery of food, especially cereal which we are so desperate for since our delivery is not due in until mid-April. I saw a fourth person one day when he needed a place to take needy families. He showed up the next open day with two families.
Hunger Inc. is serving between 35-40 families each time they are open. The families are from all over the city since we are one of the only pantries still open.
I have seen some wonderful people that are so thankful and encouraged by having the food. I saw an older lady go thru her food and then give some away to the man in the next car since he had a big family. Thanks to Kroger that allows us to give out bread and desserts. The cakes are decorated for Easter right now and the families love them. Some come and get a cake that they can celebrate a birthday with.
God is so at work!!!
The donations from the church are so helpful to keep it all going.
A heart full of joy!
Even in the midst of social distancing, we can still be the church! That powerful movement, started almost 2,000 years ago is still going strong, through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, all to the glory of Jesus Christ our risen Savior.
Blessings from the building to the church scattered (or is it gathered?).
