Give Thanks in All Circumstances

Dear Friends,

Still in the afterglow of Thanksgiving, which I think is my favorite holiday, and putting on that hopeful and positive spirit as we enter the season of Advent, a friend of mine shared some of his favorite quotes on gratitude, as follows:

"When eating fruit, be thankful for the one who planted the tree."

"Enough is a feast."

"If you keep your eye on what you're thankful for, you lose sight of what you lack."

"All of us have received more than we have given."

"We have enough beautiful skies, unbelievable mountains, and breathtaking lakes. What we need are more people to appreciate them."

"Being thankful turns what we have into enough."

Now my friend didn't tell me who made these statements. I Googled a couple of them and couldn't come up with the names either. So I have no idea who said the above things. But each one of them makes an impression on me in some way. And I do know where my absolute favorite Thanksgiving quotes come from, they are found in the Bible, and they say:

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever." (Psalm 107:1)

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (I Thessalonians 5:16-18)

So, there you have it, some of my favorite quotes for this time of year, and for any time of year, to acknowledge in any and every circumstance our dependence on and gratitude for other people - and most of all God.

Grace and Hope to you,

Pastor Duane
