Dear Friends,
Other than Esther, which really belongs in the more historical books (which was last week), our verses for today come from what we might call the Poetic books of the Bible. Lots of different themes are at work here, some kind of down and others upbeat, including that spring is on the way. What is the theme that speaks most to you? The theme for me this week is up above in the title.
“Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” Esther 4:16
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb and naked I will depart. The Lord gives and takes away, may the name of the Lord be praised.” Job 1:21
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” Psalm 37:7
“Let the wise listen.” Proverbs 1:5
“Everything is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” Ecclesiastes 2:11
“My lover spoke and said to me, ‘Arise my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come.” Song of Songs 2:10-12
Remember that we are going systematically through the Bible, using a verse or two from each of the 66 books as they come from a drawing titled “God’s Fingerprint” to guide us.
Grace and Hope to you,
Pastor Duane
