Finding Peace in the Midst of the Season

Why did the Advent wreath break up with the Christmas tree? Because it was tired of the constant “revolving” around the same old things!😄

As the weather gets colder and lights begin to sparkle, it’s clear the Christmas season is here. While the twinkling lights and festive decorations bring joy, the season can also feel overwhelming. Between shopping, decorating, and preparing for gatherings, it’s easy to forget the peace Advent invites us to embrace.

Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for Christ’s coming, a season of hope where we reflect on His birth and anticipate His return. It’s about finding peace, not in the perfection of the season, but in the presence of Christ.

I’m sure many of us can relate to the busyness of the season. A friend of mine spent days preparing for a family Christmas dinner, checking off every detail—only to realize she’d neglected to find her own peace. It wasn’t until the event was over and things settled down that she remembered the true reason for the season: Christ came to bring peace, not perfection.

In John 14:27, Jesus promises, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” This is the peace we’re invited to experience—not peace that depends on our busyness or perfection, but peace that comes from resting in Christ.

This Advent, I encourage you to take a moment to breathe, pause, and embrace the peace that Christ gives. Join us for worship tonight or Sunday, and make sure to mark your calendars for our special Christmas Eve services. Let’s come together and find true peace in the presence of Christ this Advent season.

Wishing you peace and joy,
Rev. William G. Nickrand
