Dear Friends,
Have you heard the one about the little boy who was standing in the foyer or gathering area of the church, staring up at a plaque that hung on the wall? The plaque was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it. The little boy had been looking at it for some time, so the pastor walked up and stood beside him and said quietly, "Good morning, son."
"Good morning, Pastor," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque. Then he asked, "Pastor, what is this?"
"Well son, it's a memorial to all the men and women who have died in the service." Reverently, they stood together, staring at the plaque.
Until finally, the little boy spoke up and said, "Which service, the 8:30 service, or the 11:15?"
Like that church, we have several worship services on Sunday morning here at Southport United Methodist Church. We don't know of anyone who has died in any of the services, but we will soon be changing the times of our Sunday morning worship services.
Starting this coming Sunday, September 13, our worship services will be at 9:00 a.m. for our traditional worship, and 10:30 a.m. for our contemporary worship. Our Thursday evening service at 6:30 p.m. and our online service will remain the same.
Our Leadership Team unanimously made this decision recently in order to keep the church as efficient and flexible as possible during these uncertain times. We hope this small but meaningful change will allow us to be as relevant and available as possible for in-person and online worship into the indefinite future as we continue to share grace and hope with everyone we can.
Grace and Hope to you,
Pastor Duane
