God's Fingerprint

Dear Friends,

Not too long ago, a member of our church, Sue Daube, gave Brenda and me a drawing. From a distance, it looks like a fingerprint. In fact, that's what it is, a kind of giant fingerprint. But when you come up closer, you see that each line of the fingerprint is a verse from the Bible. The name of the drawing is "God's Fingerprint," and there is a verse from each of the 66 books of the Bible. (We'll take it with us when I retire, but for now it is in my office at the church. Stop by sometime and I'll show it to you.)

You can never immerse yourself too much in words from Scripture, it is healthy and enriching to do so. And when I began to read each verse included in this drawing, it seemed to me that some of the most uplifting and inspiring passages from the Bible were there.

As we go through the next couple of months, the weeks leading up to Easter and beyond, I thought I would use my Tuesday email to share these verses with you, five or six a week, to give you words of encouragement and hope and challenge, powerful words direct from the source. This first week has verses from the first five books of the Bible, known as the Torah, or Teaching, or Law.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

"Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see deliverance. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still." Exodus 14:13-14

"Love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord." Leviticus 19:18

"The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished." Numbers 14:18

"Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders." Deuteronomy 33:12

So, read and think about these words, reflect, meditate on them, let them challenge and encourage you in the week ahead.

Grace and Hope,

Pastor Duane
