Scott Swan

Dear Friends,

We have some special services coming up this Sunday, when we will be hosting Scott Swan as the guest speaker at both 9:00 and 10:30 for worship. Scott, as you probably know, is the Eyewitness News anchor for local TV station WTHR/Channel 13.

Scott is a graduate of Pepperdine University in California, with a degree in broadcast journalism. Over the years, he has won many awards, including regional Emmy awards, and a prestigious National Edward R. Murrow award.

Scott is noted for his award-winning stories leading up to the Olympics, which he has done over the last 20 years, and is doing currently. But as I looked over some of his stories over the years that have been highlighted, it seems to me that they mostly have the common theme of Hope, finding hope in the midst of a bad situation, giving hope to someone who has lost it. One of those stories was one called "The Little Tree on Southport Road," a little tree that grew up out of nowhere seemingly and gave people hope.

When the shooting and serial killing occurred last April at the Fedex building here in Indianapolis, Scott wrote these words on his Facebook page, which I used here in worship the following Sunday, "Remember that God doesn't leave us alone when we face tragedy. He walks through it with us. Friend, talk to God about how you're feeling. He knows you. He cares about you. He loves you." That is a message of Hope.

Our theme for the month of February is Hope, and here this Sunday to give us his message of Hope will be Scott Swan. Please join us in person or online (our Facebook page or website - there will be a little delay from the usual time in the posting of our services this Sunday, expect them to be available at or after 10:30 AM).

Grace and Hope to you,

Pastor Duane
